Jonathan Roldan’s Entrepreneurial Journey with Brightside Car Wash
For Jonathan Roldan, a proud veteran and family man, the road to business ownership has been a testament to adaptability and a relentless pursuit of a better quality of life. Having served in the Army from 2009 to 2013, which included an 11-month deployment to Iraq as a field artillery crew member, Jonathan transitioned from his military service to a demanding career in logistics. As of July 1, he has embarked on a new mission: breathing new life into Brightside Car Wash in Naperville, Illinois.
After his military service, Jonathan earned a Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management from Lewis University. He went on to work for PepsiCo, JB Hunt, and UPS, in addition to owning and managing rental properties. Despite career stability, the rigid schedule limited his time with his wife and three young children, fueling his desire for more autonomy and immediate impact on his life. This aspiration, alongside the physical demands of his logistics work and his experience as a landlord, drove his search for a new venture that offered a fresh challenge and better well-being.
Guidance and Inspiration from Veteran Business Project
Jonathan’s proactive approach to career change led him to Veteran Business Project (VBP). He had previously connected with Justin Miller, who eventually became his mentor, initially at a “Roll Call” event, where he was introduced to Dale Eisenberg, the President and co-founder of VBP. He subsequently connected with Lynn Lowder, CEO and co-founder of VBP, who also served as a business coach for Jonathan.
Jonathan engaged in several candid meetings with Lynn, openly discussing his situation and his desire to explore business entrepreneurship. Lynn provided honest and direct advice, identifying the significant financial risks involved in pursuing a business venture alone given Jonathan’s existing commitments.Â
During their discussions, Lynn also recommended the book “A Purpose-Driven Life.” It had a profound impact on him. The book deeply resonated with his own background and circumstances, providing a powerful source of personal reflection and inspiration. This foundational guidance and personal inspiration proved invaluable, shaping Jonathan’s mindset and approach as he continued to plan his path forward.

“Embrace the challenge. It’s about finding what truly refreshes your mind and keeps you sharp. And don’t be afraid to seek the right partners and guidance – it makes all the difference.”

A New Horizon in Naperville
Armed with this renewed perspective and a clear understanding of the financial considerations for solo entrepreneurship, Jonathan strategically prepared for his next step. He decided to sell his real estate units, moving away from the complexities of being a landlord and freeing up capital and time for a new venture. It was during this period that the inspiration for Brightside Car Wash came serendipitously. He discovered the car wash in Naperville, and a visit to the business with his trusted friend, mentor, and business partner, Jonathan Quinn, quickly confirmed its potential. This partnership was crucial for mitigating risks and achieving his entrepreneurial goals.
While the car wash needed “TLC” to bring it to the level of full service Jonathan envisioned, its location made it an attractive prospect. Jonathan Quinn’s decision to team with him made the acquisition possible, forming a crucial partnership where Jonathan Quinn manages certain internal business aspects and Jonathan Roldan oversees operations as the owner of Brightside Car Wash.
Since taking over in July, Jonathan has been hands-on, physically working at the car wash and rebuilding the team. He retained experienced employees who understand the business and are committed to its success. While navigating the challenges of hiring and managing new staff, Jonathan is quickly learning the ropes of business ownership and developing the additional skills he needs to succeed.
Community, Connections, and a Purpose-Driven Path
Jonathan is actively integrating Brightside Car Wash into the Naperville community. As a proud member of American Legion Post 43 and the VFW of Naperville, he’s committed to fostering local connections and finding ways to give back.
Brightside Car Wash offers a comprehensive range of services, including walk-in washes, express washes, and detailing for showrooms, as well as buffing, waxing, and polishing. Jonathan also envisions the car wash as a community hub, offering its spacious lobby as a venue for events, allowing local businesses and partners to network while their vehicles are being serviced. He has already begun reaching out, distributing complimentary car wash cards at local events, and exploring partnerships, such as “Realtor Thursdays,” which offer discounted business memberships for unlimited washes.
Jonathan Roldan’s journey with Brightside Car Wash is more than just a business venture; it’s a strategic move towards a more fulfilling life, balancing ambition with family priorities and personal well-being. With his determination, a supportive partner, and a commitment to community engagement, Brightside Car Wash is poised for a gleaming future under his veteran leadership.
Jonathan’s advice for fellow veterans considering a new path:
“Embrace the challenge. It’s about finding what truly refreshes your mind and keeps you sharp. And don’t be afraid to seek the right partners and guidance – it makes all the difference.”
