Anthony Friel

Tony was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1980. He is married to his wife, Emily. They have three daughters: Reese (13), Fiona (7), and Quinn (Big 4). He was raised and currently resides in the suburbs of Chicago. In 2000, Tony earned a two-year Marine Option NROTC Scholarship to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2003, he was commissioned as a Marine Officer. In 2004, he graduated the USMC Infantry Officers Course and became a rifle platoon commander in the Second Battalion, Eighth Marines. While at 2/8, he deployed as a rifle platoon commander with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East. In 2006, he deployed with 2/8 as a weapons platoon commander to Iraq. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Military Training Advisor to the 31st Naval Construction Regiment on Naval Base Ventura County. His duties included training and evaluating all the Naval Construction Battalions on the West Coast in preparation for deployment. In 2010, he attended the U.S. Army’s Maneuver Captain’s Career Course and Airborne School. In 2011, he became the 2/8 Battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer and deployed to Afghanistan. In 2012, he became a company commander and was deployed to the Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Georgia to train their soldiers in combat operations. In 2013, he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps to pursue a career in Federal Law Enforcement. Due to the government sequester in 2013 and the government hiring freeze, he earned his health and life insurance license in the state of Illinois and sold retirement insurance products. From 2014 thru 2022, he worked as a Special Agent for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration in Chicago, Illinois. In 2022, he became a Special Agent with the United Stated Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, where he currently works. In his spare time, he works out with a group called F3. F3 stands for Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith. F3 has helped him transition from the USMC to the civilian world successfully. He uses the power of F3 to hold two fundraisers annually to support the local food pantries and park district.
